Rex’s paintings…

Fresh inspiration, new work for 2010

Rex's new work draws inspiration from travels, sketching and note taking in Morocco. Patterns emerge; the arrangement of produce in the souks, the tiles on table tops or courtyards, fish lined up in harbour quay sides, the heat and shade through arches, the gestural curve of an archway.

Working through images back at home some essence of all that was seen, heard, smelt and felt emerges in the form of a visual language that can be explored to result in colourful, warm and vibrant images.

Rex's painting back in the studio is a further journey and the work on show at the 2010 open House is merely a resting point.

Images are in the process of being uploaded onto the website.

Rex will be on hand most weekends to answer any questions.

Earlier work

Rex’s work from earlier years drew inspiration from maritime themes; boats, sand, sea, costal forms, maritime maps, and a range of weather conditions mainly from  travels in the Isle of Scilly and France. There is also work from Barcelona and Peru - some can be seen on this website and and others available to view on request.

Rex studied Fine Art at Brighton Polytechnic (1977-1980). He has for many years taught art in a local secondary school.

Ev Meynell
I’ve been working as a professional sculptor for the past 35 years.  I work in clay then cast my pieces in bronze or various resins. In recent years my abstract sculptures have been constructed with stainless steel. In both my figurative and abstract works I aim to illustrate the natural vitality linking humans and other living forms. I have had numerous private commissions over the years, as well as some important public commissions.

This year I’m delighted to have been invited to display a figurehead piece of sculpture on Herm Island (Channel Islands) together with a ‘standing figure’ by Antony Gormley.  Gormley’s signature piece is already in place (www.herm-island.com) and my 5 metre tall sculpture ‘In Flight’, which  represents sails and wings, will be installed at the harbour entrance in May.
