Annelies Clarke IS OPEN AS USUAL (May 2010)  four weekends 11am-5pm, although not advertised in the AOH brochure.

Since 2006 this venue has opened independently, because of an increase in numbers (up to 900 visitors in the space of 3 hours) that made it difficult for people to see what was on display and experience what we hope to be an uplifting and encouraging artistic event. "Annelies Clarke was born in Holland and trained first in Rotterdam and then at the Accademia di Belle Arti, Florence, Italy, where she obtained the four-year Diploma in Painting, Etching, Anatomy and History of Art (with honours). She has lived and worked in Brighton since 1980. In addition to her personal work in various media, she accepts commissions for portraits, murals, stained glass and interior decoration schemes."

INTRODUCING ANNELIES CLARKE
Annelies Clarke is a multi-talented Renaissance artist. She has an enthusiastic, batteries-included approach to her work and this has won her a loyal following. Her annual Open House exhibitions during the Brighton Festival are always packed out. Annelies is a classically trained painter who specialises in virtuoso figurative paintings – theatrical dreamscapes, religious visions and intensely focused watercolours of plants and rocks. However, Annelies reckons artists should put their brushes where their mouths are and paint in a language that people enjoy. So she also turns her hand to commissions, private and public, in a variety of mediums. She makes tenderly realistic portraits in oils. She creates dazzling murals for kitchens and bathrooms. She draws posters for the Brighton Youth Orchestra; she crafts bravura stained-glass lamps, mirrors and windows, but if at all possible she spends her time in her atelier.
