FIVEWAYS 1999

"This page is about the Fiveways Artists Group exhibition during May 1999."

OPEN HOUSE EXHIBITIONS

The seaside resort town of Brighton, in Sussex, England, is the scene of England's largest arts festival, held during May every year.

Around the Fiveways area of Brighton, live and work a colony of artists. For many years during the Brighton Festival, they have opened their homes to put on art exhibitions. The general public flock in thousands to visit these houses to meet the artists and see the displays.

The artists open-house exhibition has become an art movement which has grown to over 100 open-house exhibitions throughout Brighton and neighbouring Hove. The Fiveways Group started this phenomenal experience, and has been awarded funds from the Arts Council of Great Britain and the National Lottery Foundation to publish a history of the spectacular event.
