Nicola Jackson 146 Balfour Road Brighton, Sussex, UK BN1 6NE 01273 565559 Love of colour and texture inspire my hand-made paper wall pieces, hangings and books, and it is these qualities that first attracted me to paper as a means of expression. |
My paper is made from recycled waste. The work ranges from rough grainy textured wall pieces, folded, layered and embossed, to light smooth ephemeral surfaces, and continues to explore the relationship between created and found materials.

My work began with layered and strung pieces in which colour and pattern predominated, an archaeological interest then led to the use of runes and picture writing from Nordic and Egyptian eras, with Celtic patterns and images woven into browns and desert sand backgrounds.

Currently, nearness to the sea and my love of beach, cliff, wind and tide, have led to the development of a new series combining texture, colour and drawing, with found objects such as ropes and nets, and brings to themes from the tideline new expression of light and movement. |
